
Music Cities Network welcomes Nantes as new member and starts Residency Program with the Urban Music Lab as pilot project in Aarhus
First news: The Music Cities Network (MCN) expands its network with the first city from France - Nantes. Second news: MCN launches Residency Program with projects for artists and young industry professionals. The Pilot project will be the Urban Music Lab for Hip Hop Artists during the Aarhus Volume Festival from 25.06.-02.07.2018. For the selection of artists the network cooperated with local music networks from Aarhus, Groningen and Hamburg.
Nantes is the 5th Music Cites Network member
The Music Cities Network is happy to welcome Nantes as 5th official member of the network. In cooperation with the institution Trempolino, MCN welcomes an experienced and forward thinking partner to the network. Nantes is also renowned for being a rich, lively and innovative city. Its economic clout makes Nantes France's 3rd largest industrial city and 2nd most successful city in terms of employment growth. Regarding the Nantes music sector, the main missions are in line with the municipality’s determination to support emerging musicians and new forms of creation as well as to address the expectations of the professionals. The objective is to help those projects grow in a favourable environment, thereby promoting the dynamics of cultural innovation. Welcome on board Nantes! Residency Program: Urban Music Lab in Aarhus 25.06.-02.07.2018.
In collaboration with the Aarhus Volume Festival and the hip-hop collective Larus, Promus and Music Cities Network host a joint showcase during the Aarhus Volume Festival with new urban talents from Aarhus, Groningen and Hamburg and in cooperation with the local music networks Promus Aarhus, Urban House Groningen and RockCity Hamburg.
The following artists have been chosen: SwerVain MiYaGi and Curve Squad from Aarhus, Young Hendrix and CloudyDiow from Groningen and Leroy Menace and Benjamin Eso/Es Asare from Hamburgl! The six have selected after an open call via the member cities and are now gathering in Aarhus from Monday 25th of June. Here they will participate in an workshop under the musical leadership of Bror Winther from hip-hop collective Larus. The workshop will make its “grande finale” during a common showcase at Aarhus Volume, Saturday, June 30th from 18:00 in the Den Rå Hal.
The Urban Music Lab is part of the newly initiated Music Cities Network Residency Program, which facilitates a worldwide music and music business talent exchange for upcoming artists and young industry professionals for member cities of the MCN. The goal is to connect the participants directly with each other by using the member cities and their connected networks as a gateway, utilising their already existing structures, knowledge, and hubs.
Jesper Mardahl (Promus), Aarhus, MCN Member: “We want to strengthen the exchange opportunities and initiate new projects to intensify the cooperation within the music scenes of the MCN member cities. With the new Music Cites Network Residency Program, the network is putting these goals into action.”
